Choose Dubai Creek and Old Dubai accommodation when heritage streets, souks and creekside exploring are central to your holiday. Compare Bur Dubai and Al Seef for the southern bank, and Deira for the opposite bank; the exact location matters more than the broad "Creek" label.

For a modern luxury apartment base with Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain views, stay with SML Vacation Homes Dubai and plan Old Dubai as an outing. SML's apartments are at Grande Signature Residences in Downtown Dubai, not in Old Dubai.

Where should you stay around Dubai Creek and Old Dubai?

Old Dubai describes the historic creekside districts rather than one single hotel zone. Bur Dubai and Deira sit on opposite sides of Dubai Creek. Al Fahidi and Al Seef are on the Bur Dubai side, while Deira's markets offer a different setting across the water.

Do not confuse this heritage area with Dubai Creek Harbour, a separate modern development. A photograph of a contemporary waterfront with the distant Burj Khalifa is not enough to establish that a hotel is near the traditional abra crossings or Al Fahidi.

Al Fahidi & Bur Dubai

Consider this side for heritage lanes, galleries and cultural visits. Map the walk from your accommodation to the places you want to explore and check luggage access to the entrance.

Al Seef

A creekside area combining heritage-inspired architecture with a contemporary waterfront section. Good to investigate when you want dining and an evening promenade as part of your stay.

Deira

Consider the opposite bank for souk browsing and a busy creekside atmosphere. Check your hotel's exact district: "Deira" covers more than the immediate Gold and Spice Souk area.

What types of accommodation should you compare?

Match the accommodation format to the trip, then choose the creek bank. A heritage-style hotel can make the setting part of the experience; a conventional city hotel may provide a more familiar arrival and service arrangement. An apartment may be useful when the party needs separate bedrooms and a kitchen.

• Heritage and boutique stays: check the room location, lift or stair access, bathroom layout and how luggage reaches the entrance.
• Full-service hotels: confirm what the rate includes, whether a creek view is the booked category and how family rooms are configured.
• Holiday or serviced apartments: confirm the actual bedrooms, kitchen equipment, cleaning and guest-support arrangements. The label alone is not a service guarantee.

Which Al Seef hotels are useful starting points?

Visit Dubai's Al Seef guide identifies Al Seef Heritage Hotel Dubai, Curio Collection by Hilton, as an accommodation option in the heritage-style district. For a contemporary alternative, Canopy by Hilton Dubai Al Seef describes its setting beside Dubai Creek and lists rooms and suites.

Use those official pages to investigate room types, access and current availability. SML does not operate these hotels. We recommend SML's own Downtown apartments when your priority is luxury shared living space and landmark views rather than sleeping within the heritage district.

Old Dubai or Downtown Dubai: where should your family stay?

Couples who want to step into heritage lanes each morning may prefer a well-chosen Old Dubai hotel. Families and groups may place more value on a shared lounge, a kitchen and separate sleeping spaces. Neither neighbourhood wins every itinerary: choose the daily experience you want most.

What is worth exploring around the historic creek?

Build the outing around a small number of places, rather than a checklist across both banks. Al Fahidi offers heritage architecture and cultural stops. Al Seef adds a waterfront stroll. Across the creek, Deira's Gold and Spice Souks are established visitor destinations.

A traditional abra crossing can connect the experience of the two banks, but check the actual boarding point and service. Do not assume every boat described as an abra follows the same route or charges the same fare. RTA's current service information is the practical source for a journey.

For a family day, leave room for breaks and shorten the walk in hotter conditions. If someone in your party needs step-free access, check each attraction and transport leg individually. This guide does not certify all heritage lanes or boats as accessible.

How do you reach Old Dubai from Downtown?

Use the Metro or a taxi to reach a chosen starting point, then explore a manageable area. RTA lists Union and BurJuman as Red/Green Line interchanges. Its map places Sharaf DG, Al Ghubaiba and Al Ras on the Green Line. Choose the station for the actual attraction or hotel, not simply the word "Creek".

• Metro: use the current RTA network map to plan the line and any interchange.
• Taxi: name the attraction or hotel and the desired entrance. "Old Dubai" is too broad to identify one arrival point.
• Water transport: verify operating routes, boarding arrangements and payment methods using RTA timetables.
• On foot: consider heat, crossings, surfaces, luggage and your party's pace. This page does not invent walking or airport-transfer times.
